A Journey from Kidney Failure to a New Life

A Patient's Story | Shared by Aman

I am from Noida, and this is the story of my brother's fight against kidney failure—a journey of fear, resilience, hope, and ultimately, a new beginning.

My brother had been battling kidney disease since he was just one and a half years old. For nearly seven years, he received medical treatment, and after years of medication and regular follow-ups, his condition remained stable with gradual deterioration of kidney function.

In February 2026 kidney function significantly worsened, and he had progressed to Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Hearing those words was devastating. Our entire family was overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty.

At that critical moment, we met Dr. Anuja Porwal. As my brother was very young we had many apprehensions regarding dialysis. Plus it was difficult for him to continue his studies with three times a week dialysis. From our very first consultation, she gave us hope. She patiently explained my brother's condition, answered every question, and guided us with confidence and compassion. She advised that a kidney transplant was the best and most definite option, it will make the life of my brother normal as his own peers.

Our mother decided to donate kidney to him. While the work up for transplant being done his condition worsened and he has to be started on dialysis. He underwent dialysis several times. Watching him go through that phase was one of the most difficult experiences for our family. Throughout this challenging time, Dr. Anuja Porwal and her dedicated team stood by us with constant support and reassurance.

With timely planning and expert care, the transplant was successfully performed on 24th April. Thankfully, the surgery went smoothly without any complications.

Today, my brother is recovering well, and my mother, who became his kidney donor, is also doing well. Seeing them both healthy again is nothing short of a blessing.

Our family will always be grateful to Dr. Anuja Porwal, her entire medical team, and every nurse who cared for my brother. Their expertise, kindness, and unwavering support gave my brother a second chance at life and restored hope to our family.

Thank you once again.
